Part One: Initial Consultation
Mike and Kim had a backyard with real potential: a second-story view of the golf course, room for a proper patio below.
What they had instead was an unsafe deck, a lower yard that flooded every time it rained, and a cracked driveway that greeted them every single day.
They came to MCM Outdoor Living with a clear vision: to turn their old backyard and driveway into a true outdoor retreat with a second-story deck, a private hot tub space, and a shaded lower patio they could enjoy year-round.
Before we drew a single plan, our team walked the property to understand exactly what we were working with.
What we found during the initial site review...

Unsafe deck
A brick column supported the deck, but it had no structural attachment. It was a safety hazard waiting to happen.

No drainage
The backyard had no drainage lines. Every heavy rain sent water flooding across the patio.

Crumbling retaining wall
Severe cracking in the retaining wall required structural intervention before building a new patio.

Cracked driveway
The existing driveway was heavily cracked, uneven, and well past the point of repair.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Before a single shovel hit the ground, this major project was fully mapped out. Every material, every measurement, and every structural requirement were accounted for up front. MCM managed the HOA submittal, city permit applications, and the required engineering review and stamp for the elevated deck structure.
Deck Scope Plan
This is the heart of the project: a 420 sq. ft. second-story deck rebuilt and finished with composite Trex boards that never need staining or sealing. Underneath, a fully finished ceiling with lights, a fan, and a weatherproof outlet turns the lower space into a functional outdoor room.
Paver Patio Plan
728 sq. ft. of travertine-style pavers in a classic pattern. Plus, a reinforced pad built to hold the full weight of a hot tub without ever shifting or settling.
Part Three: The Complete Timeline
From the moment Mike and Kim signed on, they never had to wonder what was happening with their project. MCM handled every phase, from design and permits to construction, landscaping, and every last punch list item.
December
Mike and MCM connected virtually to walk through the vision. Initial 3D models and design drafts were delivered within the same month that the deposit was made.
January - February
Materials, colors, and paver styles were locked in. MCM handled the HOA submittal, city permit applications, and a required engineering stamp for the deck.
March
The old deck, unsafe brick post, cracked pavers, and broken fountain were torn out. The city drilled, inspected, and approved the pier holes before framing began.
April
The new deck structure went up, the 70-foot French drain was installed, and the driveway was demolished and prepped. All rough framing and electrical inspections passed on April 29th.
May - July
Sprinkler lines were rerouted around the new patio. A minor under-deck drainage punch list item was identified and fully resolved before any final sign-off.
August
Sod and Zoysia seed were laid, final touch-ups were completed, and we walked the finished project with Mike and Kim on-site. The warranty was officially registered on August 25th.

Extended Elevated Deck & Trex Railing System

The deck stretches all the way to the corner of the home to capture the full golf course view Mike and Kim had always wanted. The under-deck space below is a finished room in its own right, protected from rain by the Trex RainEscape drainage system.

Premium Belgard Travertino Paver Patio
Over 728 sq. ft. of Belgard Travertino pavers in Ivory, installed in a classic 3-piece French Pattern with concrete border locks and beige polymeric sand. The hot tub pad is built to a different standard than the rest of the patio to safely support the full weight of a freestanding spa without settling or shifting over time.

Full Driveway Demolition & Concrete Repour
The cracked, uneven driveway wasn’t just an eyesore. It was structurally failing. MCM demolished the entire slab and repoured 1,050 sq. ft. of 3,500 PSI concrete reinforced with #3 rebar at 18-inch centers, and finished it with a professional brushed texture. The result is a driveway that meets current city code and is engineered to handle daily traffic for decades.

What DFW Homeowners Say After We're Done
Every review below started the same way: a homeowner with a vision and a backyard that wasn’t working. Yet.

Kevin Case
MCM installed a pool/hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and patio cover/deck for us in early 2026. Communication throughout was very good.
Every step of the process and associated costs are laid out in an app, so they are clear and explained well.
Our install wasn’t without some issues here and there, but the issues were resolved quickly and without pushback from MCM.
Good customer service and quality build.

MCM Outdoor Living took on a project no one else was willing to do—recessing a swim spa and hot tub into an underground vault.
They patiently worked through permitting challenges, stayed responsive despite weather delays, and never made me feel like my project wasn’t a priority.
Anytime I had a concern, they came back promptly and resolved it without issue.
I couldn’t be happier with the results and highly recommend them for any complex outdoor project.
