Paver Patio and Pergola Rebuild
- Old pergola demolition and full rebuild
- Drainage fix and electrical rewiring
- New cedar deck skirt
Location: Cobblestone Dr, Dallas, TX
Price: $27,435

Part One: Initial Consultation
When homeowner Timothy reached out to MCM Outdoor Living, they already had a backyard. They just couldn’t enjoy it anymore.
The existing pergola had aged past the point of refreshing. The concrete pavers surrounding the space had shifted over time. And beneath it all, the yard’s natural slope had created a slow-draining problem, pooling water where the patio met the lawn.
Timothy wanted a clean, safe transition from his deck down to the yard. He wanted something he could actually live in.
After hundreds of outdoor builds across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this is exactly the kind of project we know how to get right.
What we found during the initial site review...

Failing old pergola
The existing wooden pergola was beyond saving and needed full demolition

Uneven pavers
Concrete pavers had become loose and no longer sat flush with the deck

Drainage issues
The yard’s natural slope was causing standing water

Damaged deck skirt
The wooden deck skirt and wood boots at the patio cover posts were deteriorating
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
We immediately got to work, building a complete picture of the project. 3D design sessions were conducted via virtual meeting so the homeowners could walk through the plans and react in real time.
Pergola Plan
The new cedar pergola has deep concrete footers keep it anchored for years to come, and a Dark Walnut stain gives it a clean, finished look.
Paver Plan
The ground underneath the pavers was properly rebuilt to make sure the surface sits perfectly flush with the deck. No more pooling after rain.
Electrical Plan
The homeowners already had a fan, lights, and switches wired to the old pergola. We mapped out exactly how to transfer all of it to the new structure.
Part Three: The Complete Timeline
Here’s the full arc of the project from first contact to final walkthrough.
Mid-August
The homeowners reached out. The project was reviewed internally and initial schedules were drafted.
January 29th
A virtual design meeting was held. 3D renderings and a video walkthrough were delivered following the session.
February
Field plans were updated following the material selections appointment. A job site walkthrough was completed for electrical review, and 811 utility locators marked the site.
March
On-site work began. Demolition of the old deck skirt was underway and the existing pavers were lifted. The new pergola structure was framed and erected. Pavers were reset and leveled to grade. New electrical lines were run throughout the structure.
March 30th
Construction was finished. A final punchlist walk addressed the remaining minor items, including fan replacement and a few paver line adjustments.
This refreshed outdoor space was designed, permitted, and built in under three months from first contact to final walkthrough.

New Pergola and Paver Patio in Dallas, TX
This project included:
- Full demolition of the original pergola
- Tearout of the deteriorating deck skirt
- New freestanding Western Cedar pergola, 15.5' x 16', finished in Dark Walnut stain
- 251 sq. ft. of concrete pavers lifted, re-graded, and reset flush with the deck
- Crushed concrete base installed for long-term paver stability
- +5" slope engineered to tie into existing underground drain
- Up to 65 linear feet of new natural cedar deck skirt installed
- Existing fan, ceiling fixtures, and switches rewired

Western Cedar Pergola in Dark Walnut
The centerpiece of the project. The custom 15.5′ x 16′ pergola was built freestanding from Western Cedar, finished in a rich Dark Walnut stain, and elevated 6 inches above the existing roofline for proper clearance and cleaner sight lines. New footers anchor the structure, and the scale of the build (lumber, hardware, stain, and footings) made this the defining element of the entire outdoor refresh.

Paver Grading and Resetting
The old pavers were actively contributing to drainage problems across the patio. The fix required lifting all of it, installing a deep crushed concrete base for lasting stability, and resetting every paver flush with the adjacent deck at a +5-inch slope that ties directly into the existing underground drain.
Key Features
This Project Cost $27,435
