Part One: Initial Consultation
Lois and Vinny first met our team at the Collin County Home & Garden Show. They told us about their wide-open grass lawn: plenty of space, but no shade, no shelter, and nowhere to relax or garden.
Lois wanted a greenhouse she could use in July heat and January cold alike. Vinny pictured a shaded, sheltered patio off the house for morning coffee and hosting friends. And they wanted it to feel like one connected space.
Before we promised anything, we checked property-line setbacks, confirmed the roofline could carry an attached pergola, planned the engineered framing, and mapped how rain would move across the yard once we added roofs and hardscape.
What we found when we looked closely at the backyard...

Empty lawn
No place to sit, entertain, or garden when the weather wasn’t perfect.

No drainage
Downspouts dumped right at the foundation, leaving mud after every rain.

Zero utilities
The yard had no outdoor outlets, lighting, plumbing, or heating and cooling.

Patchy grass
The grass went dormant and thin for months at a time, so the view out the back was tired, worn turf.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Our design plan solved three things at once: how the space would flow, how water and utilities would run, and how the structures would last. We reviewed them with Lois and Vinny on a virtual design call, refined the material selections in the office, and moved forward only once every detail was locked.
3D Renderings
Photo-realistic views of the greenhouse, pergola, and patio so Lois and Vinny knew precisely what they were getting. No guesswork, no surprises on reveal day.
Greenhouse Plan
The enclosed, climate-controlled greenhouse plan shows where the gardening sink, shelving, heating, and cooling go. Lois and Vinny get a comfortable, working space to garden and relax year-round.
Part Three: The Complete Timeline
From signing to sign-off, the project ran a little over six months, with about 12 weeks of active, boots-on-the-ground construction. Here’s how it unfolded.
March 5 – 11
Contract signed, first payment in, and a welcome call to kick things off. Behind the scenes, we ran our internal viability review to confirm everything we’d promised was buildable.
March – April
We developed the 3D renderings, held a design call with Lois and Vinny, finalized their material selections in the office, and secured city permits and HOA approvals.
April – May
On-site walkthrough, 811 utility-locate testing for safe digging, final material and labor bids locked in, windows and doors ordered, and the first footings prepped.
May – July
Construction mobilized with lumber and paver deliveries. We poured footings, framed the greenhouse and pergola, prepped the paver sub-base, and laid the patio flooring.
July – August
SkyPoly roofing went on, electrical and plumbing were roughed in and trimmed out, the outdoor sink workstation was built, and the mini-split heating and cooling unit was installed. We reached 100% completion on August 11.
August – September
A project manager inspection, a 30-day settle-in period for Lois and Vinny to live with the space, and a final punch-list touch-up. The completion walkthrough was signed off on September 22.

Paver Patio with Greenhouse and Pergola
This project included:
- Design, planning, and permitting
- 2,892 sq. ft. of Belgard pavers across a multi-level patio and walkway
- ~200 sq. ft. cedar-veneered greenhouse with an open-gable SkyPoly roof, climate control, and gardening workstation
- New cold-water plumbing run to the greenhouse sink
- Full electrical: recessed can lighting, GFCI outlets, ceiling-fan hookup, and control switches
- New attached cedar pergola off the house roofline with a SkyPoly roof
- New gutters color-matched to the house
- Complete drainage system and irrigation restoration

Belgard Cambridge Cobble Paver Patio and Walkway
2,892 sq. ft. of tiered pavers turned a patchy lawn into distinct, connected zones for sitting, gardening, and entertaining. Built on a properly prepped base with edge restraints and retaining walls, it’s made to stay flat and solid for the long haul.

Climate-Controlled Greenhouse
A custom timber greenhouse with glass and polygal walls, built-in shelving, and its own heating and cooling means Lois can garden comfortably in any season. The attached covered patio gives a shaded place to sit, so the space is as much for relaxing as it is for gardening.

Cedar Pergola Attached To The House
An attached rough-hewn cedar pergola off the house extends the living space right out the back door. Its leak-proof SkyPoly roof means proper shade and rain cover Lois and Vinny can count on.

A complete, year-round outdoor living space, designed and built by one team.

Hi, I'm Cody, the owner of MCM Outdoor Living
Lois and Vinny told us that they weren’t going to add a pool. Then, they spent time living in the space we built, and changed their minds. We’re now building their pool as the next phase.
That’s about the best compliment a contractor can get.
Our approach is simple: one plan, one team, start to finish.
We handle the design, permits, structures, utilities, and the finish work ourselves. Our clients never get stuck wondering who’s responsible for what.

The Same Experience and Expertise, Backyard After Backyard
Hundreds of DFW homeowners have trusted us with their outdoor space. Here’s why they’d do it again.

Kevin Case
MCM installed a pool/hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and patio cover/deck for us in early 2026. Communication throughout was very good.
Every step of the process and associated costs are laid out in an app, so they are clear and explained well.
Our install wasn’t without some issues here and there, but the issues were resolved quickly and without pushback from MCM.
Good customer service and quality build.

After having a horrible pool builder experience and a lifting pool deck after 2 years, we hired MCM to completely take up our cool deck and lay a new travertine tile surround and it looks amazing!!!
A cracked skimmer basket was also repaired in the process and my pool has never looked better. Thank you so much.
We have made several referrals to your company and will continue to let people know what amazing work your team does.

Nat with MCM recently completed a patio extension for our family in Oak Point.
The project was challenging because we had to overlay the existing porch slab with concrete to make the extension level.
The final result was immaculate and amazing. These guys are fast, efficient and definitely know what they are doing.
From start to finish the process was smooth. We highly recommend MCM.
