Part One: Initial Consultation
When we sat down with Michael, the homeowner, he already had a vision for his backyard in Rockwall, TX.
He wanted a resort-style pool and spa to enjoy with family, a covered cedar pergola for shade, and a drainage solution that would keep the yard dry after rain.
We realized quickly that the backyard had a lot going for it. But it also had serious problems to solve.
Thankfully, the on-site visit gave us a complete picture of Michael’s space and his goals from day one.
It set the stage for a design that addressed every problem and finally gave Michael the outdoor living space he always wanted.
Everything we found during the initial at-home consultation...

Drainage failure
Standing water after rain ruins usable yard space and threatens new hardscaping.

No street privacy
An open sightline to the road makes the backyard feel exposed.

Soil erosion risk
Loose dirt migrating toward the pool area could compromise the shell and surrounding concrete.

Irrigation conflict
Existing sprinkler lines ran directly through the planned hardscaping, which calls for rerouting.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Before a single shovel hit the ground, we had a complete set of drawings, 3D renderings, and permits in hand. Every decision made on paper saved time and money in the field.
Pool Plan
The exact shape, size, and depth of the pool and spa are locked in. You can see where the bench seating is located and how the spa spillover connects.
Triangulation Plan
Precise measurements from the home’s corners to the pool edges. This also revealed the need to shift the pool 5 feet back after utility lines were located.
Concrete Plan
400 sq. ft. of brushed concrete decking wraps the pool, providing a clean, non-slip surface that withstands Texas heat and heavy foot traffic.
Part Three: The Complete Timeline
From first dig to final walk-through, the active construction phase took approximately 14 weeks. Check out the full project timeline.
August
We issued the proposal on August 20, and the homeowner signed and accepted the contract the following day. Manager review was completed by August 25, and the project officially began.
September - November
Design plans were drafted and submitted for city permits and HOA review in mid-September. On October 7, the 811 utility lines were located, triggering a plan revision. All city permits and HOA approvals were secured by November 25.
December
The City of Rockwall passed the pre-dig inspection on December 17. Active construction officially began on December 19 with the pool excavation. By December 22 through 24, the belly steel was installed, inspected, and the gunite pool shell was laid.
January
Framing on the Western Cedar pergola began. The deck steel and bonding inspection was cleared on January 15, and concrete forms were prepped the following day. Pergola staining and roofing were progressing by January 26.
February
The pergola passed its final city inspection on February 6. The pool shell was cleaned, plaster was installed, and the team began the acid wash and pool fill on February 11 through 13.
march
The city passed the final pool inspection on March 6. We completed the installation of a larger gas regulator and meter for the equipment by mid-March. The final walk-through with the homeowner took place on March 26.
Following the first heavy rainfall after completion, the homeowner reported standing water in the yard. We returned on May 7 and extended the drainage line, fully resolving the issue.

Jandy Smart Controller and Saltwater System
Full control of the pool from anywhere. The Jandy smart controller puts lighting, filtration, temperature, and saltwater chlorination in the homeowner’s hands from a phone or poolside panel. The saltwater system keeps day-to-day chemical maintenance low and keeps the water gentler on skin and eyes year-round.

Western Cedar Pergola
This pergola does more than add shade. It turns the pool deck into a true outdoor room. Built from Western Cedar, stained in mahogany, and covered with a SkyPoly bronze panel, it stays dry when it rains and holds up to the Texas sun year after year. At 10 feet tall and attached directly to the home’s roofline, it feels like a natural extension of the house.

Jandy Gas Heater and Spa Bubbler System
Year-round comfort for the spa and pool. The Jandy gas heater keeps the spa at the right temperature regardless of the season, while the bubbler system adds the hydrotherapy experience the homeowners were looking for from the start. Together, these elements make the raised spa the centerpiece of the entire outdoor space.

After having a horrible pool builder experience and a lifting pool deck after 2 years, we hired MCM to completely take up our cool deck and lay a new travertine tile surround and it looks amazing!!!
A cracked skimmer basket was also repaired in the process and my pool has never looked better. Thank you so much.
We have made several referrals to your company and will continue to let people know what amazing work your team does.
