One Plan for the Whole Yard on a Lakeside Colony Lot

MCM Outdoor Living is a pool builder and outdoor living contractor in The Colony, TX, building custom pools, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, patios, and decks as one connected outdoor space. Building on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake is a different job than building inland, and the difference is the wind, which comes across open water with nothing to slow it down.

Every backyard we build here answers to the lake first, so wind exposure sets how we frame and fasten the shade structures, the slope toward the water sets the drainage, and the humid lake air guides the materials. We keep design, permits, materials, and construction under one roof so the pool, the patio, and the shade all line up on the tighter shore lots around town.

Our outdoor living services include:

Outdoor Living Services

Every backyard we build in The Colony answers to the lake first. Wind exposure sets the framing and fastening on the shade structures, the slope toward the water sets the drainage, and the humid lake air sets the finishes, so a design that would be fine in a sheltered Plano yard gets built to a tougher spec here.

From the first walkthrough to the final startup, one project manager keeps the trades in order and keeps you posted, and the pool, hardscape, and structures all get built by crews certified through TrexPro, Belgard, and CMHA. The result is an outdoor space that looks right and holds up on an exposed shore lot for years.

Swimming Pool Construction

How a lakeside lot drains decides where a pool can sit and how deep its footings run, so we read the grade toward the water before we settle the shape. Our swimming pool construction puts a reinforced gunite shell where the yard drains cleanly and the sightline to the water stays open.

Our swimming pool construction services include:

Pergola Installation

A pergola is the structure most exposed to what comes off the water, so we frame ours in cedar or steel and fasten it for the uplift a shore lot actually sees. Our pergola installation gives you shade that stays put through a spring storm.

Our pergola installation services include:

Deck Construction

Decking near the lake takes damp mornings and hard afternoon sun in the same day, which is rough on a board that isn’t built for it. Our deck construction uses capped composite and stainless hardware that shrug off the moisture swing.

Our deck construction services include:

Outdoor Kitchen Installation

The gas line, the 240-volt circuit, and the grill run all have to land before the slab pours, so on a combined build we trench them while the ground is already open. Our outdoor kitchen installation puts a cooking space on the sheltered side of the patio, out of the worst of the wind.

Our outdoor kitchen installation services include:

Paver Patio Installation

A paver field holds its lines only as long as the base under it stays put, so on a lot that pitches toward the lake we compact and pitch the base to move water off it. Our paver patio installation is built to drain toward the yard and away from the house.

Our paver patio installation services include:

covered patio installation tx

Covered Patio Installation

A patio roof on an open lakeside lot has to carry wind uplift on top of its own weight, so we size the posts and connections for the real load. Our covered patio installation keeps the space usable when the wind picks up off the water.

Our covered patio installation services include:

Retaining Wall Installation

Lots that step down toward Lewisville Lake often need their grade held before anything above it can be built level. Our retaining wall installation holds the slope and moves water through the wall so it doesn’t pool behind.

Our retaining wall installation services include:

water feature installation dfw tx

Water Feature Installation

Moving water is one of the few things that softens the road and wind noise an open lot picks up, and it doubles as the focal point of the space. Our water feature installation is plumbed to run quiet and efficient.

Our water feature installation services include:

Privacy Fence Installation

A fence line on a shore lot catches wind on every panel, so the posts have to be set deep and braced to stay plumb. Our privacy fence installation closes the yard in without leaning after the first storm season.

Our privacy fence installation services include:

artificial turf installation tx

Artificial Turf Installation

Turf keeps its color through a dry Colony summer and stays firm right up to the pool and patio edge, with no mud tracked back inside. Our artificial turf installation is graded and drained so it sheds water as fast as the hardscape around it.

Our artificial turf installation services include:

Outdoor Fire Pit Installation

Evenings on the water cool off fast once the wind comes up, and a fire pit is what keeps the yard in use after sundown. Our outdoor fire pit installation sets a gas or wood feature into the hardscape, placed clear of the wind line.

Our outdoor fire pit installation services include:

Hardscaping

Walkways, borders, and the graded base under a patio do the quiet structural work that keeps a sloping shore lot draining and level. Our hardscaping is built on compacted base with Belgard pavers and masonry.

Frequently Asked Questions

It will when it’s built for it. We frame lakeside covers and pergolas in cedar or steel, anchor the posts for uplift, and use corrosion-resistant hardware, which is a heavier spec than a structure put up on a sheltered inland lot.
We read the grade before design and plan a route that carries water off the patio and around the house, using pitched paver bases, area drains, and retaining walls where the yard steps down toward the shore.
Yes. We file with the City of The Colony and Denton County, book the inspections, and make sure the barrier, gates, and fencing meet Texas residential pool-safety rules before the job closes.
Yes. A pool, a wind-rated cover, a kitchen, drainage, and a fence are what we build as a single coordinated project, which is also how the pieces end up matching on an exposed lot.
Three months from breaking ground is our guarantee, or we pay you $5,000. A pool on its own can move faster; a full yard uses the window because the trades sequence around each other.
Custom gunite. The reinforced, poured shell handles the shifting clay along the lake, and it lets us shape and place the pool for both drainage and the water view.
Belgard pavers, TrexPro composite decking, Jandy pool equipment, cedar and steel framing, and coated or stainless hardware chosen to hold up in lake air and wind.
Yes. We’re fully insured, and every lakeside project runs through proper permitting, inspection, and safety checks.
Usually. Some areas get restricted by the stage of the build, but we keep the site organized and safe so the disruption stays contained.
Yes. Every project opens with a design plan shaped around your lot, the wind exposure, and your budget, and you review the layout and materials before construction starts.

Yes. Consultations and estimates are free. Call (469) 583-6213 or submit a request online, and we’ll talk through your lot, the lake exposure, and your options with no obligation.

Build an Outdoor Space Designed for Everyday Living

Why Choose MCM Outdoor Living in The Colony, TX

A backyard on open water lives or dies on how it’s built for weather, and that’s the part a general pool crew tends to skip. As a pool builder and outdoor living contractor working right on the lake, we engineer the framing, the fastening, and the drainage for the shore before we ever pick finishes.

Proudly Serving The Colony, TX

The Colony runs along the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake in Denton County, and the lake shapes almost everything we build here, from the wind that crosses open water to the number of lots with a real view worth opening the yard toward. The growth around The Colony and the draw of Grandscape have brought a wave of homeowners finishing a fresh lot for the first time, and we design and build outdoor living for them that stands up to the shore and puts the water at the center of the yard.

We could not be happier with MCM! From the initial visit to discuss our project through completion they have been fantastic.

Ronnie Goldsmith has been great dealing with our rough concepts and offering suggestions and advice. When we decided to make a change half way through the project, they were most accommodating and easy to work with.

Their crews go the extra mile and even did some brush clean out on the site which greatly improved appearance.

5 stars in our book!

Cody and Mike were great! They were timely, very helpful and professional! They asked what I was looking for and offered several options and price points to help me achieve that desired project.

I asked for their suggestions and ideas to help improve my space as well and really liked their ideas.

They were able to show me sketches of potential for my space on site as we discussed them. On top of that, they were fun to work with!

I would highly recommend them!

A lot on the lake gives you a view worth building the whole space around, and it also sends weather at that space most inland yards never deal with. Our job is to design a pool and an outdoor living space that make the most of the water and hold up to what comes off it.

Call us at (469) 583-6213 or reach out here to get started. We’ll walk your lot, look at the wind and the grade, and lay out a plan that fits both the view and the weather.
